90 min WORKSHOP WM2 & WM4 - Elena Muzurina (RUSSIA)
Military sabre method of Luigi Barbasetti. Part II - Tactics
After reminding students of basics, Elena will move to tactics - how to make things work against the opponent? Most of us know how to cut, but not everyone's perfect attacker. We all can parry, but yet in sparring our defense is far from brilliant. Let's look, what my exercises can do about it? Class fits for students of different level, but I guess teachers will take something home as well.

Equipment requirement: military/dueling saber (steel recommended), fencing mask, padded jacket, forearm protector (armed hand), reinforced gloves, elbows and knee protectors, groin protector for men, chest protector for women.

90 min WORKSHOP WF1 & WF3 - Arto Fama (NETHERLANDS)
Longsword part 1 - Disarming in Longsword Fencing.
Disarming an opponent is to take control of the situation completely. Taking away their ability to use the blade to threaten you, in order to survive. The outcome is clear and undeniable.
In order to reach this outcome a fighter needs the ability to close in without getting hit. Exercises in this workshop deal with the technical aspect of disarming as well as the way to get there.
To goal is to create a situation in which Ringen and Disarming the opponent is an option, not just an emergency response.
By using pressure in binding, direction of threat and efficient application of strength, life becomes simple. Bind the opponent, allow them to be hit or defend themselves with their blade. Provide yourself with time and opportunity to end the fight in a single action.

Participants
: Open to all levels, some longsword experience is preferable.
Equipment requirement: Mask/cover, throat guard, gloves and federschwert. Chest protection allows for more dynamic drilling.

90 min WORKSHOP WF2 & WF4 - Arto Fama (NETHERLANDS)
Longsword part 2 - Zwerchaw. Structure and Sparring.
The Zwerchaw, possibly the most intense and versatile strike in longsword fighting. Mentioned as the strike to do when fighting for your neck in the Nuremberg Hausbuch.
This workshop is the moment to put that idea to the test. By taking a look at body structure and blade position, you will be able to train your Zwerchaw to the next level.
Focussing on the best possible movement allows you time to observe the situation, but only if that movement is a threat to the other fighter. Simply put: hit them in the face, see what happens.
Strike Zwerchaw right and left, allow yourself to be surprised.
When performed consistently, it provides safety and opportunities for follow up actions. It gives you the chance to stumble across a wide variety of techniques and take the opponent by surprise without the need to be faster.
We will build towards a dynamic drill to bridge the gap between technical exploration and sparring.
